Within a month, many deaths are recorded in our various Senior High Schools which has been a topic for discussion on the various media platforms in Ghana.Almost every student at various levels would have interacted (indirectly) with the possibility of the H1N1 pandemic 09 to millions, while parents and others circulates at meeting places like mosques, Churches markets, working places etc.
Despite the pending disease, H1N1 pandemics and meningitis, some SHS authorities have decided to maintain the final year students in Schools for vacation classes after this terms vacation.
I therefore suggests to the ministry of education and the government as a whole to quickly step in and condemn this decision by some school heads. This vacation classes although will help the final year students to prepare well towards the West African Examination Council exams ahead of them, but this is not the right time hence the outrageous disease.
I am urging the Education Minister, Hon.Matthew Opoku Prempeh to as matter of urgency put down some pragmatic measures to clean the various Schools since a reseach has revealed that 80% of bedbugs have also taken over various S.H.S’s dormitories in the country.
This cleaning will reduce the frequent demise of our children in the second cycle institutions.
Finally I believe strongly that the worn out mattresses in the various SHS levels could be a hidden place and an abode for the bedbugs and needs to be gathered and put to fire before schools reopens to avoid any infections.
