The Eastern Regional Police command has taken delivery of four Toyota Hilux Pickup vehicles to tackle crime in Koforidua, the regional capital, and its environs.
This comes at a period when robbery and burglary cases have shot up in the New Juaben municipality.
On Wednesday, 17 January 2018, the police encountered a robbery incident at Nsukwao, a suburb of Koforidua, but the suspects bolted leaving behind their vehicle and other operation gadgets. Two robbery incidences have also been reported to the police this week including one on mobile money vendors.
Eastern Regional police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, in an interview with Class News, said the receipt of the vehicles would facilitate effective police patrols in the regional capital to clamp down on criminals.
“With the receipt of the four vehicles, we are going to put them at the disposal of our men and ensure that the patrol team is expanded to every inch of grass in the municipality to conquer or neutralise persons who are putting fear into residents in the municipality,” he said.
