Barcelona won their 25th La Liga title with four games to spare and they won it fittingly with Lionel Messi scoring a hat-trick and Luis Suarez setting up each of his three goals.
Messi’s hat-trick put him one ahead of Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Shoe and with 32 goals this season he becomes the first player in La Liga history to score 30 or more in seven seasons.
He has been the difference once again. Maintaining an extraordinary level week after week as Real Madrid threw away points and Atletico Madrid struggled to keep pace.
The title win was the perfect finale for Andres Iniesta who once again confirmed he will leave Barca at the end of the season after winning his 32nd trophy with the club.
Asked if the tributes and the league title were enough to make him change his mind Iniesta said: ‘There is no way I can. It’s not about changing my opinion. I have made the decision that I feel is the most honest.
‘I wish that this could be eternal but it can’t be and I have a new adventure next season.’
He refused to confirm China as his destination next season but added: ‘I’m just happy to win another league. This is the competition you win playing well Sunday after Sunday. Consistency counts and that is what we have been.
‘Every competition has it’s merits. We have won a double and it’s a great season.’
