The Tema Regional Police Command has killed a suspected armed robber in a shootout with the police on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Golf City, a suburb of Tema.
Briefing the Press, Tema Regional Police Commander DCOP Nana Asomah Hinneh said at about 1pm a lotto operator at Tema Community 1, rushed to the command to lodge a complaint that he and his workers have been attacked by four suspected masked armed robbers.
“He further alleged that the armed men took away five mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money,” DCOP Hinneh said.
According to the Commander, police intelligence traced the armed men to a guest house at Golf City.
“On seeing the police, one of the four men opened fire. Police sensing danger responded immediately by returning fire and in the process, the gunman was hit with a bullet,” he explained.
The suspect whose identity is not yet known was rushed to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body of the deceased is currently deposited at the police hospital awaiting an autopsy.
Items retrieved included one pistol with thirty-two round of ammunition, a revolver with five rounds of ammunition, three iPhone and one iPad.
Meanwhile, the police have mounted a search for the three suspects who managed to escape.
